Beat Blast updates 5.2

We have added in the third boss! Lots of work to still do on it but we thought we could start getting feedback on it. We did a lot of bug fixing and optimizing to set up a nice stable build that we can then start putting content into. A new music system has also been started, although that is not in this build more information about that will be coming soon.

Features

  • Floor counter added to the UI after the first boss has been defeated
  • Level 3 boss is raring to go!

Balance

  • Power notes are now located on the first column of the players’ song instead of the last column
  • Level 1 boss’ laser phases accelerate gradually
  • Level 1 boss’ health increased slightly
  • Echo bullets don’t last as long as they used to
  • Shops will more frequently appear in Choice rooms
  • Power Notes rewarded after a boss will be a higher level after each boss
  • Cross Shooters in the Hive have had their spawn weight reduced
  • Sapper mines blow up more quickly
  • Sapper mines produce twice as many bullets when they explode
  • Flying hive enemies now have a warning indicator beneath them to make them easier to see
  • Base turret damage mod increased by 17%
  • Turret damage increased per tier level increased by 100%
  • Players’ wallets are now capped at 999 bits
  • Projectile enemies are less likely to shoot at walls and will instead prioritize getting a clear shot at the player
  • Turrets don’t start their ‘expiration timer’ until after they’ve begun shooting
  • A bug in blue note damage calculations means there has been a substantial drop in player damage. This was a bug fix rather than an intentional move to make the game tougher. We will monitor the outcome of this and may nerf enemy health or boost player damage in another way to compensate

Bug Fixes

  • First level boss can no longer have its nodes destroyed from outside the room
  • Gunners would shoot sideways in some cases
  • Snakes and Hive Worms will no longer steer towards the player before their room is entered. Additional checks in place to prevent them from hitting players before the room has been entered
  • Recoded projectile and physics code to resolve Echo bullets traveling through walls
  • Spin shot projectiles react better to bouncing off of walls and play their death effects properly
  • Bits giving dev function is now stripped from public builds
  • Bits scattered in a haphazard way if an enemy was killed while firing a laser
  • Players will have a harder time glitching through walls
  • Stability improvements when using Spin Shot
  • Item pickup tooltips update in realtime if you collect bits or collect, equip, or unequip notes
  • Door arrows won’t persist once you’ve exited a room
  • Mines no longer grab onto Queen Bee’s projectile
  • Turret was being affected by purple notes incorrectly
  • Large projectiles can be fired while against a wall without immediately blowing up
  • Players should no longer be able to shoot through corners
  • Enemies can no longer phase into walls
  • Should not get two of the same power note from a loot room
  • When in developer mode, starting at certain room indices could give you two Choice rooms back to back
  • Upgrade rooms could be given as a Choice room option even with a maxed out Power Note. This should no longer be the case
  • Blue notes were adding 2 damage to their column instead of 1. This was a bug rather than a balance change

Audio

  • Sapper mines are tied to SFX volume settings
  • Ambient laser SFX are tied to SFX volume settings
  • Opening menu music is tied to Music volume settings
  • Revamped our song system internally. You shouldn’t notice a change yet, but some exciting changes are coming!

Visual

  • L-shaped room had a misaligned door
  • Purple Elite Hive Worms no longer remain white when splitting their head or tail
  • Queen Bee’s swarm beams and Sniper lasers are easier to see
