Beat Blast Alpha 5.5


Hey everyone we got a few updates for the demo version while we work hard on getting the Steam version ready. We added in some great new sound tracks for you to play around with, along with removing some of the more irritating old ones. Below is the full list of updates and a teaser of whats to come on Steam.


Audio

  • We’ve removed some of the least enjoyed song tracks and added two new ones for each colour. We will be adding more soon!
  • We’ve removed the bpm changes between bouts of combat. This feature was experimental and wasn’t working as well as we’d hoped

Visual

  • All onscreen controls show rebound and gamepad controls
  • Control UI shows up on first runs. It remains on screen until the player enters their first combat room
  • Custom cursors added

Features

  • Gamepad controls can now be rebound
  • The option menu finally has full gamepad support
  • The tutorial now has additional steps if a gamepad is being used to instruct players on how to equip notes with the d-pad
  • There are fewer ways for players to ‘desync’ in Compete mode. Most notably, acquiring 50 bits will no longer hurl players into parallel worlds! We will continue to improve this in the future
  • The dodge step of the tutorial has been made more clear
  • We’ve added support for devs to specify or ban specific challenge modifiers on any given week. No more random bad luck!
  • We’ve rewritten passive and power note ability descriptions to more clearly tell the user what they will do once they’re picked up

Balance

  • Shops will now appear if the player has had 50+ bits drop on their run instead of waiting for 50+ bits to be picked up
  • The larger third boss has had several tweaks made to its second phase mine attack
    • The mines blow up faster than before
    • More mines will be fired with each shot
    • It waits longer between bursts of mines
  • Dodge distance upgrades always give 10% instead of 32%, 16%, 8%. Max stack count has been left at 3
  • Loot rooms can no longer give sound pickups
  • Bosses all drop 4-12 bits (this is temporary and will be replaced with something we’re saving for Early Access)

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed some gamepad navigation bugs
  • All of the challenge modifiers will once again be accessible. A few were never coming up before
  • Room entrance triggers are now larger to better catch players with dodge distance and speed upgrades
  • Sound pickups can no longer grant a song track the player had already collected
  • The Goliath challenge modifier could cause the player to become invincible
